I am going to fit some different callipers to my Z900. This will really require me to fit floating discs. Apart from buying from Z Power or EBC which will be around the £300 mark. Is it possible to fit discs from another bike whilst still using the standard forks etc.

Check these.

I would say there is no need to go over the top with number of pistons / swept area and also sticking with standard discs seems to work well.

In fact that is what I have to fit a set of Harrison Billet Callipers - but an item that has been discussed many times on here is that if the callipers are not floating they should be matched to floating discs. There was a thread on here with a comment from Debbens.

I have been told if the disc dont float or the calipers dont slide the discs will wear quicker.
I bought a zed with a standard discs and modern fixed calipers and the discs dont look to be to bad.
At the end of the day I'd mount them on and try it if all else fails then you can always buy floating discs.

(My discs had to be spaced out though for the spokes not to hit the back of teh calipers)

The calipers don't float but the pistons do
