Hi guys

I want to remove my front brake splitter from the bottom yoke of my Z1000a2 and run two full length braided lines....

How can I get a front brake light cos the switch is on the splitter ??

Someone must have had the same problem.

I did the same thing on my old Z650

i.e. no front brake light just the rear one :D

P.S. i'll have your old splitter off you if you don't want it :D

Sorry mate, I am trying to keep all the standard bits.

Are you saying you just went without a front brake light ?

Law says you must have a brake light on the rear .

It is not necessary to have one on the front as well.

There are tiny switches within modern front master cylinders, maybe you would want to change cylinder ?

You can use a brake switch banjo bolt. They replace the standard bolt and work under brake pressure. It means an additional wire upto the brake mastercylinder though.

Or you can put a ED20 brake switch holder in one of the lines and put the switch into that.

Front brake switches are only compulsory from about 1981 - onwards i fink :?:

Monk, I have an in line brake pressure switch on me Black Zed... but the thing isn't very sensitive, and only works when you brake fairly hard

Anyway, i always disconnect the front, coz sometimes its handy to brake without attracting too much attention to the fact

Not connected on my 81 GPz and it passed its MOT. I am going to reconnect though because there is serious "tail gating" when I go to work.
on my z650 there is a pressure switch on the splitter under the head light (B2 model, single disk)

I disconected the front switch on me z1000(2003). works well when people are following, they cant belive i hardly brake. I use the rear now and again to make em think it works ok. (suppose not the done thing really  )
think the law says the brake light only needs to be operated by one means,(on bikes up to mid 1980ish) it doesnt say whether that is the front lever or the foot brake so it should be ok with just the rear. me z1a at the moment has only the front switch connected at the moment till me new rear switch arrives.

I think all 80's bikes - on, had front brake switches fitted, so if they were OE, they must also work to pass an MOT :??
