Hi all
Can anyone provide help or advice regarding vehicle identification.

I have looked at a potential purchase of a Z900, but identified a frame number of DR134811 MD and could not find any engine number.

the log book stated engine number DR134811K29 but could not locate the number to confirm. I looked in normal position of rectangular plate by kick start / oil filler aperture. (normally where engine numbers are). the space was blank but did not look as though it had been rubbed down.

I thought all Z's frame and engine were prefixed Z1***** or KZT

The frame looked ok, can anyone give advice or comment on the information provided as I have a gut feeling something is wrong.

Sorry the bike is a US import

any assistance/info would be greatly received

Hi Dean.
never seen a frame number like that before. I had a uk z1 with no number but that was because it was a new replacement frame, suppose the engine casings could have been new replacement ones, zpower's web site has all the proper numbers, here's a link to it. hope this helps,

Have emailed Zpower and classic bikes to see if they can show any light on the ID numbers.

Engine did not look new ! although the head did look new or well refurbished.

Just hoping someone reading this might know as there is always someone commenting on specifications of Z's!

The bike I am talking about is on ebay (blue tank with gold stripe from gloucestershire)

Looks clean/tidy, but you need to look beyond that. The seller has obviously spent a lot of money on it, but the frame number doesn't match anything Z1 or Z900 related. This may present a problem when you come to sell it.

Didn`t Spondon make a replica frame in aluminium? If it is one what no`s would it have?...are you looking in the right place?

The Spondon frames are beefier about the swingarm pivot that isn't one. It looks like a Z900 but the frame numbers is made up, by who or why I don't know. It's a import, the MD could be Maryland, maybe it's some kind of US goverment or tax department number but I have no idea why that may have replaced the proper number. Is this frame number stamped into the headstock?

Z900 frame number should start with Z1F suffix and engines with Z1E suffix.
If it's an American import there should be an I.D. sticker/label on the headstock as well the stamped in frame number.
The numbers you've got there are not Kawasaki.

I wonder if it was stamped with these unusual numbers/letters by the authorities,because it is of "dubious origin".

Comment from Z power was "these numbers mean nothing, certainly they are not kawasaki numbers.
i did see something like this on another USA import and it turned out it was a stolen recovery and re-stamped by the relevent office over there.
Unless it is very cheap i would not bother
