Carburettor Jetting Advice

Hello People,

I need some advice on the jetting of my Z1000A1 carbs.

The bike is fitted with a Harris & K&N Type filters. Not to sure if any other work has been done i.e. cams so I am assuming not.

When stripping the carbs I found the following (Standard as advised by Kawasaki in brackets)

Main Jet: 112.5 - (107.5R)
Pilot Jet: 17.5 - (17.5)
Needle Jet: 0.6 - (0.6)
Jet Needle: 5DL31-3 - (5CN8-3)

As I am rebuilding the carbs I wish to replace all needles & jets etc. As you can see the main jet & jet needle differ from the recomended stadard size.

My question is could the differing sizes be due to the re-jetting of the carbs for the Harris/Air filter?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Eddie

What size are the carbs, are they 26 or 28mm :?:

I've got 28's on my Z1000a2 with 112.5 main jets

But my motor has 1105 wiseco pistons, ram air filters and a Marving pipe and it runs lovely with them.

Looks like the carbs have been re-jetted to sort out the "leaning out" at the top end that you'll get with K&N's and a 4-1. Personally, I've always upped the main jet a couple of sizes, but I've never changed the needles, just lifted them half a notch by means of a tiny weeny washer under the circlip. If you want to put the needles back to standard, be prepared for a search, as they're NLA.

I have had this conversation with the lads at Debbens.

My A2 is running a set of pod filters and a baffled Harris (pretty quiet) and Ray and Steve reckon about 120 mains and 20 pilots. The rest is down to the needles but it is a case of trial and error.

I haven't made any changes to my carbs yet cos the bike is of the road having a bit of winter tarting up done, I would be interested to know what you end up with in your carbs and how it runs.

I'm running standard airbox, and I would suggest you try and get one, and a 'arris pipe with road legal baffles (quiet but sweet) I was running 107.5s mains which is standard, but after a dyno run with Jam, upped them to 112.5s as she was running lean. If you add pod filters to the equation, you should probably go up say two sizes122.5s? Prolly worth sticking her on a dyno; it's not mega bux  I think Jam charges club members £15

Two sizes from 112.5 should be 117.5 I think, not 122.5 ?
