34mm Gsxr carbs on a 1000st ?

HI Gurus

My 1000st keeps leaking fuel from the overflows.
Have cleaned , set the fuel heights , replaced the seals/gaskets etc.
do not want to spend any more money on 30year old carbs.

I have a set of 34mm CV carbs from an early gsxr (I think). I also have a set of inlet stubs that will mate the carbs to the head

Has anyone any experience of running these?

Running a Motad 4/2 (thanks padders) and will be using pod fiters

Regards
Craig

You'll probably get them to run OK... BUT....

CV carbs are NOT the best for tuning....... they are not as flexible as plain slide carbs....

Such and see matey

Hello Oldzed, one of the problems of fitting GSXR carbs is that the float bowls are angled to retain a horizontal level when fitted to the GSXR engine (which leans forward at quite an angle), the Z engine however sits almost upright, and so the carburretors end up tipping backwards.
If you consider how just changing the exhaust sytem on a GSXR can upset the fuel curve demands enough to require the fitting of a Dynojet kit to provide useable power then imagine how different an aircooled 8 valve Z engines requirements are to the GSXR's. It can be done and I am sure others on this forum have done so, but I would expect you would need to fit a Dynojet kit, and then a fair amount of experimenting with jet settings before you acheive a compromise that you are happy with. An alternative would be to fit Z1000J type 34mm CV carbs. It would probably be less expensive / time consuming to ovehaul your original Kawasaki carburretors. Regards, Steve

Thanks for the replys guys

Looks like I need to take them apart again
I have possibly got an offer of carbs from a member and I have been given a set of rubber tipped fuel cutoffs from z650 carbs

Check the fuel height not the float heights, this will tell if you if the valves are cutting off, by the speed of flow up the tube. If not then go for new valves / seats, but make sure you do it with clean petrol. It may be rust flakes from the tank, strand of filter material from an inline filter, crap on the pivot pin etc causing them to stick open.

I wouldn't bother with the cvs I expect you will have more drama setting them up than sorting the 28s.
