Hi guys

Here are some pics of the carbs on my Z1000A2.

I am told they have been messured as 28mm.

Of course they should be 26mm so I guess they have come off something else ?

Z1B ?

Possibly even GS1000 or similar ?

HELP !!!!!

You need to take pictures of the tickover adjuster, and choke lever. Suzi used cable choke but as there is no tickover adjuster at the bottom of the carbs they may be a bitsa collection with 26mm carrier but 28mm carbs.

Tick over adjuster is fairly large and round, about the size of a 2p piece and is at the top of the carbs, it feels as though it is just below the tank when you get your hand in there.

Will add some pics of the choke carb.

see the overflow pipes in the last picture? (the 4 thin black hoses)

they should be held on with small wire clips.

Look very much like the carbs that were on my GS1000E which didnt have a cable choke.

I used to have a US Z1000Ltd that had 28mm carbs and they looked very similar to those pictured. Mine also had an accelerator pump on one of the carbs on cylinder 2 or 3 (can't remember which one now). I can't see one on these pictures though. The pump was mounted on the float bowl with a hose linking it to the other carbs. I think there was also a mixture adjustment screw in the angled up casting - blanked on yours??

I also think that the hose which has been kinked over and clamped on the carbs between cylinders 3 and 4 should be open to atmosphere (or to the airbox if it was fitted). There should be another hose between carbs on cylinders 2 and 3? I think these are breathers for the float chambers. I made the mistake of disconnecting and clamping them and it made the bike run really badly!!!

Good luck with tracking down your running fault :D

what is going on on that thrid photo?

there is a hose, that looks to me like it is doubled over and sealed with a cable tie.

the carbs are fed fuel via a union between 1 and 2 pair, and 3 and 4 pair - it looks to me that the sealed of hose is fitted to that union.

That hose goes to the airbox trumpet.

Usually a clear type I would personally leave it open to the elements, since all it does it take unfiltered air from said trumpet.

Better still stick the stock airbox back on !

Well, well, well......the carb drama is nearly over.

I still don't know exactly what they are but thanks to Steve at Debbens and some eagle eyed chaps on this very site the 'bent over' little bits of pipe have been removed and bined.
They were blocking the float bowl breathers !

Quess what ?

It runs lovely now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
