All seems to be going well then
There was a thread not long ago about an aftermarket R/R unit suitable for most if not all Zeds.

Tommy - Without even seeing a pic I can tell that you have a H**** reg/rec unit there. 3 x Yellow to alternator, Red to + live, Black to Ign (switched live) and Green to earth.
Whilst this may work to begin with, boiled batteries and bolloxed windings may result.!! Be warned - I've been wiring bikes for over 25 years and seen this many times
I suggest you buy what you need direct from Electrex
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/
They do the individual 'standard' regulator, rectifier, or a combined unit if you so wish. Don't get stuck at the roadside, at just £45 for a heavy duty combined unit, it may well be worth while in the long run.

Tommy, i've got one of the regulators from Electrexworld on my A4. It's been on about 10 years. Works fine.
You will need to check, but i seem to remember they are supplied with bullet connectors, you need to specify if you want the block connector.

Now why on earth did photobucket delete three pictures of a Reg./Rec. they were on here this morning when I first put them on, could it be because the wires were stripped.

Steven, loss of photobucket snaps, could be due to the sites overloaded (slow) state.
Back to the topic.... Sweeptail, I would use pretty well any regulator/rectifier in a finned case with 6 wires. I usually use a reg/rec unit off a ZXR 650. I have had many factory single regulators give up, boil the battery and burn the coils. To me, the Rectifier/regulator fit is mandatory for Z1's, Z900 to Z1000-A1. I check them by reading the voltage across the terminals of a fully charged battery at about 3500 RPM to see that they do not exceed 14.5 volts.

I agree - despite the Haynes manual saying 16 V is fine - in the test regulator section.
