Help! Z1100R major carb problem

Sorry that as my first post I have to ask a question.
I've been trying to get my Lawson rep back on the road after several years in the shed but the needles from the original BS34 carbs have been lost (long story I won't bore you with).
It has Dynojet needles fitted and has been on a dyno more times than my wallet can cope with but it still won't run properly. The standard Mikuni 5B5 needles are discontinued.
Not really keen on splashing out 600 quid on a set of smoothbores. Got a secondhand set of carbs on ebay that were supposedly off a Z1100R but they weren't. Anyone know what other carbs might work on this bike?
Will also put a post in the wanted section for carbs or needles.

I am in the middle of refurbing 3 sets of BS34 from 1100's. I also have a K&L kit for a set of carbs from Z1 enterprises which do not include the needles. When I did my kettle carbs the keyster kits I used came with new needles.

You could try Allens Performance, this is where I got my jets from (thanks for the tip Pigford!) They hold a lot of knowledge and stock for carbs and ots a next day service!

You could also try NRP they have a good rep

Hello Brian, sorry to distract from your intended but was that you driving up and down my road today Saturday 20th on a Lawson Rep???? Bike looked very tidy indeed from the little i saw of it.

Wasn't me out on the bike. It's been off the road for years. Have been restoring it this year and went to MOT it at the beginning of August but it cut out a couple of miles from home.
Been in at a workshop with dyno facilities for the last six weeks whilst they try different needles etc to get it to run properly.
Have tried NRP, Allens performance, Z-Power and various places in the States but not been able to track down any needles.
Allens have smoothbores in stock though. Anyone reading this got smoothbores? Are they any good on a standard engine?

Brian,I've got a set of 1100R carbs but they're with Plumba 54 who's trying to get his ELR running.
I've also got a spare set of Z1000J carbs that you're welcome to borrow as they're quite similair to the 1100R carbs.
As for smoothbore,flatslide carbs,etc if you do decide to get some then look at the prices in the U.S.A. before doing anything.
Have to you spoken to Steve Debben about your bike as he's in Hampshire
Maybe some of the Japanese based Kawasaki specialists can source some needles for you
Personally I'd try and get your bike sorted with the 34mm Mikuni CV carbs before looking at larger/different carbs.

Hi Brian great offer from Jack and if you want to borrow the CV's of my J1 which runs fine i can get them off in five minutes and this might allow to to eliminate carbs as a problem and point the finger at something else.
Their up jetted 5% so probably would be ok for yours. Bit nearer than Jack too, not to say that its not a kind gesture just that i'm nearer so probably no post involved.

Let me know what you decide. Their available anytime and bike is still running as we speak but not for much longer.

Thanks for carb offer but don't think it'll help. I know it is the carbs. It had been running perfect but then I kept getting muck in the carbs (a really fine silt that got through the inline filter). Had to clean the tank out several times before I cured it, but in case it happened again I put pods on to make it easier to remove the carbs. I had it dyno jetted for the pods but it didn't run properly and the original needles got lost.
I'll check ebay here and in the US over the winter. A friend in the States can always buy for me if something turns up. Or if the exchange goes back up I could get him to buy some RS34's ($700 over there) and bring them over on his next trip to this side of the pond.
Until then I'll have to ride my trusty VFR (sorry, I know some people on here don't like reference to the "H" word).
