Z650 bearing shells????

Aaaaarrrrggghhh.
I'm rying to replace all the 'consumables' in the engine. All is fine until I come to the big end bearing shells - all three Service manuals (Kawasaki, Haynes and Clymer) tell me I can select the bearings from a choice of three based on wether a marking is present on the conrod and the crankshaft.... but not one of them tells me where the bloody marking is or what it looks like.
So I can't find anything that looks like a marking - but does that mean it's not there, or I'm not seeing it?
Can anyone give me an indicator of what I'm looking for?
