have a z1000 motor with debben 'super gas' z900 head fitted,1mm o/s valves, megacycle cams.was told only to run on leaded fuel, which when i got bike was no problem, however during bikes overlong hibernation lead is now a distant memory. would you advise additive or is unleaded ok??

Best give Ray or Steve a shout.... or PM him - Debben1

Millers do a good lead replacement (not cheap tho)...

Depending on valve seat material, you could get away with retarding the ignition a few degrees if pinking

You can get leaded petrol from a company called Bayford thrust they distribute it to UK petrol stations, the list you can find on their website.(above)

I use it occasionally when I am planning on leaving the bikes standing for a while as it does not degrade as much as unleaded. You can also use millers vsp additive which is a good additive.

Hope this helps.

You can always put the lead back into the petrol by the way of a fuelcat.
Which is just balls of lead inclosed in a mesh that you just pop into your tank. :D

from the link, fuelcat is not quite the same as the lead pellet.

there is another product(s) thatis supposed to replace the lead but again it is load of BS - the lead in petrol is some compound of lead and putting for example lead shot in the tank, is gonna do nowt as the lead isnlt going to dissolve.

the head should be able to take unleaded as being aluminium, must have inserted and presumable hardened ones that take unleaded - the issue may be with pinking though, retarding igniton is one way that may prevent that.
