Hi Lads,since I've had me bike back on the road I've noticed a bit of clutch slippage mainly when on the power,I had a bit of play with the adjustments but it still slips,so I pulled the clutch out for a bit of look,the plates look ok visually but I havnt messured them yet but I did messure the springs,my manual says that the free length of the springs should be 33.8mm and the wear limit should be 32.3mm yet all the springs messure about 35mm ,is it possible the springs could be an aftermarket item? surely the springs would get smaller not longer,any ideas on this ?cheers Ken.

According to the gen w/shop manual for 900's, the the std free length is 33.8mm, the service limit is; 32.3mm, as you said.
Did you change the oil while the bike was off the road?

the oil was drained and fresh stuff put in before I started it. Also the clutch lever pressure seems a lot heavier than I remember , I must be gettin old.

With certain oils, they can be prone to clutch slip. I am sure there was a thread about this a while back.
It might be worth doing a few miles on it, to see if it improves.

Check cable routing and condition.

You can get a new set of friction plates for £20 on eBay....
For that amount may be worth a try... coz if its been run with synthetic oil, it may have contaminated the plates & they cannot be cleaned..
If the F/plates are old, they can deteriorate and thats the end of them.
Springs are quite cheap too..... so a new std set is a good investment.

thanks for your advice guys,I fitted a set of APE friction plates ,the kit comes with an extra friction and steel plate and they recommend a different push rod mushroom,has anyone had any experiance with these? It still feels a bit stiff but I havent been out on the road yet.Cheers Ken.

I have a Manzano in mine (same thing, the friction plates are thinner than std so don't mix them) the bearing pusher will make some difference and stop you welding the clutch rod, but you may have more drag than with a std clutch.

The needle roller mushrooms are good... easy to fit & only about £20

I've got one in me Zed with an MRE 'lock-up' clutch and its performed great for the last year & several 1/8 & 1/4 mile runs

I had a bit of clutch slip a while back, so forked out £100 on eBay for an the lock-up.... that way you can keep the softer springs & light action, but have a non-slip clutch

finally got to go for a ride after fitting the APE clutch plates and the first ride the clutch was slipping like you wouldnt belive so I backed off the adjuster at the pushrod and all seems fine now though it still seems to be to heavy,but that could be down to having clipons and putting to much drag on the cable maybe.Cheers Ken.
