Does anybody know if Z1000/A1 carbs are the same as those on a Z1000ST

No , Z1000A1 are 26mm and Z1000ST are 28mm + STs have vacuum Fuel tap.

You can blank off the vac take off with one of the little plugs from the inlet rubbers.
