I keep seeing seat locks and keys for sale for a z1b but mine has not got a lock just a lever pointing 3 oclockish and rotates to about 5 or 6 oclock to unlock the seat. Can anyone shed any accurate information on this ?

The lock is a seperate thing and screws up (with 2 screws) just underneath the lever. The lever will work ok but you cant lock it , er obviously ,without it.. you might just be able to see the 2 screw holes behind the hole in your side panel, were the key would fit.

Forgot to say, the screws actualy screw in a downward direction pulling the lock mechanism upwards, if that makes sense,

Thanks for the info Floyd.
Phil, thanks mate. I'd like to pop over sometime and take a gander. The bike is nearing the front of the queue for a full restoration. Most of it is there (well all the important bits anyway). But I am going to need to research things like fastener finishes etc. I'll drop you a pm over the next few weeks and arrange something.
ps Phil, have you been getting over to Bassetts Pole this summer ? Not been this year. Weather and diy seem to have been ganging up on me.

Will do Gez,. Thanks very much. I still need to collect the coil from you. Did you manage to free up the z1b cases we spoke about ?
I'll give you a bell over the next few days.

I think it was the Z900 A4 (1976) and later models that had a seat locks fitted.
