.... got the engine running again!!

boy is it sweet (as they say in USA) or it is jolly spiffing old chapos (as they sayt in UK).

got the carbs together, fitted them on, funnels to the carb pipes, fill with petrol and fire the electric start.

started almost immediately and ran all by itself on the choke (do seem to be getting lots of petrol smelling fumes!) and do not need to touch the throttle at all to keep it running, like I used to. All 4 exhaust pipes cylinders are getting hot :D

just need to adjust the push/pull cable, set the idle, fit air box rubber, fit tank and look for a dry day for the MOT. :??

regarding the cables; I take it the push cable is adjusted so it is slightly under tension whereas the pull cable can have a bit of free play?

aslo what is the idle rpm (if rev counter is to be believed, it was idling smoothly at 400 rpm!). 900 rpm ok?

I didn't check float height nor clean the choke mechansim as seems I have got away with it!

The closing cable should move the sprung mechanism on top of the carbs by about 1mm when you shut off, but shouldn't be under tension when you let go of the throttle as this will put tension on the opening cable and there should be slight slack in the system.

running

if you recall, cyl 1&2 weren't getting hot at all.

takeing carbs apart revealled no. 1 needle vavleto be well cruded up so no fule into that one for sure; no. 2 air corrector - the hollow screw that fits into bottom of main jet had hole blocked.
