now the carbs are out of the way, I plan to remove the breather clean it up and do some compulsory behvaiour polishing.

Is this a good idea - i.e. am I likely to destroy the gasket removing it?

What am I likely to find inside it? a mesh with an oily mess?

I memory serves me right I think it has an 'o' ring seal. Inside there are some odd baffle things. Not a hard job to take apart.

yep big o-ring on the base and smaller one under the bolt.

was surprised how nearly spotless it was inside - car breathers have usually been full of black crud.

a quick wipe inside, going over with some 1200 wet'n'dry and painting the bolt head silver has it looking spick and span (whatever that means!).
