Hi everyone

This is not my first post! I did join 18 months ago when i was just about to move from NZ to Australia, if you can remember I had two Elr's lined up to look at with a view to buying one.
Well long story short I didn't, however I kept searching and waiting and now one has come availible!

My question is, how much does an original Elr go for these day's?

Has anyone got any hints or tips what to look for?

The bike in question has been in a museum for a while and the owner is selling it because he has moved to France

Anywhere between £2000 and about £3500 depending on the condition is usually ballpark. Sometimes you can get one for less sometimes people try to sell them for more. I know that's a wide window but it's like how long is a piece of string...

Is it an R1 or R2 Lawson rep ??
From the pic it could be an R1,which I would say would be more sought after and worth a little more.
Price is heavily dependant on originality and condition.
Are ELR's sought after in NZ and Australia

Not sure of Australian prices but the Z1000R2's seem to be as much as £1000 cheaper than the equivelant Z1100R1's. Then again if you've found a Z1000R1 you're looking at upwards of £1000 on top of the price of an 1100.

Hang on how can you tell if its a R1 or an R2 ?

From what you lads are saying if it is an R1 he is asking the right sort of money, he wants $7,500 which is about 3,600 pounds.

Can you tell me where or what bad point to look for, when I say bad point I mean bits on the bike that if I had to replace would cost a few bob?

The R1 has got the round J type clocks and was fitted with a Kerker from the factory.
I think it was only available in the U.S.A and maybe Canada+South Africa.
I'm not sure about any other differences such as brakes,forks and wheels between the R1/R2.

What year was the R1 and then the R2 produced?
It has a Kerker but I think the Australian delivered bikes came with the Z1100 pipes, the black chrome ones with the badge at the back.

The R1 was 1982
The R2 was 1983.
The R2 model came with 4-2 pipes as standard in every market it was sold.

Apparently not in South Africa... and you know what the other difference was.

I know the R1's had a numbered emblem on the side panel, did the R2's have the S.A. flag on them?

The SA R2s had an R1 frame, all the others had a J frame. The frame numbers were the European sequence.

The fame number is - KZT00R003745, engine number - KZT00JE043243.

So with the information from Jack its a R2?

I take it this would be worth 1,000 pounds less than a R1?

Do you think this is a bit too steep, if the UK is anything like Australia the cost of fuel and interest rates are having a huge effect on peoples "spending" money.

Problem is if I wait for his price to come down two things might happen, one - someone else might buy it and two, the seller might just keep it as it sound's like he does not need the money

Anyway I'll wait for your thoughts.

Is the bike worth the money to you?

Would you be upset if some one else paid the asking price and you missed out?

Is this an investment you hope to make money from?

If the first three are yes and the last one no then get it bought. The value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it
