Oil leak

Ineed to replace the valve cover gasket on my Z1B as it sprung a leak at the TT.Should i put silicon on the gasket as well?

No. The gasket alone should be used.

You should grease the gasket thoroughly. How long ago was the current gasket fitted? If you run around the bolts with a torque wrench you might get away without changing the gasket (8ft/lbs). Don't be tempted to go more though, else you'll be having helicoils fitted

3 or 4 hundred after my rebuild I sprung a small weep, but this was solved by a quick whip round with the torque wrench

Ralph,i nipped up the bolts to no avail.We put the bike in the front of the tent at the TT as it was raining,took the valve cover off and found the gasket to be damaged.A touch of silicon slowed the leak down enough to enjoy the TT.Cheers
