What happens if you wiggle the associated right hand indicator wires with the bucket removed? Obviously you've only a partial connection somewhere - worsened when everything is scrunched up to accomodate the space taken up by the headlamp. It's either a partially broken wire or a dodgy male / female bullet connector - partially corroded perhaps?

Still have not figured out what is wrong. I checked all the plug/wires and right blinker works fine. With headlight bucket in, blinker works fine. BUT as soon as I tighten the headlight bucket bolts the turn blinker stops working. Mind bender??

Sounds like it could be an earth problem, try connecting another earth wire

Do your indicators employ earth (ground, as the Americans have it) leads with a ring that locate under the headlamp side mounts? If so it sounds like it has a partial break that opens when the mounting is tightened. Have a look and see. You could probably just snip off the end connector and put in a new one.
