Murph, they are real sod'd those rubber things

I fixed mine in place with some sealent.... :)

I put the goo around the end rubbers and loosely place the cam cover so it didn't start squeezing the bugger out! I left it over night to cure and nipped it up next morning.....

I used Permatex Ultra Black, gasket maker....... from Debbens

I prefer the billet alloy ones anyday

Thanks for that pigford will try that and see what happens.
all the rest were ok but this one looks like it's been badly fitted in the first
place as it's slightly distorted so i dont know if it will ever be oiltight .!!

Mine were all new, and just one was being a pain

The design is poor.... due to the steel insert being on the outer edge, and the fact that it sits too near the external face, it tends to want to squeeze out

I really recommend the billet (APE) items.... would have used 'em meself but coz I was ordering stuff I thought I'd go mostly std for a change on the engine externals

A drop of superglue will hold them in place. Clean the head and rubbers with acetone so that any oil or release agent is gone.

They're not hugely expensive. I would recommend sticking some new'uns in. I bedded mine, after a serious degreasing, with silver RTV. No hints of leaks on my baby

Had Fer and Ian marshall over tonight Fer had a set of BILLET end caps doing nothing in his garage and Ian had the right sealant so between us they are now on my bike and i'm ready to rally at squires.
Thanks for the help guys and thanks for the advice from the club. :up

Iain your welcome in murphs Bar (see previous post ) Anytime.
It's always better to see it on a social visit than when mildly panicing (me) about the run to squires on friday.
Will bring something nice from the bar with me anyway.

Billet is the way to go. However the ones I bought were machined flat. I was still getting a litte weep from them. I suspect all the sealant was being pushed out . I ended up grinding a small grove along the seal face in the middle so the high temp silicone would act like an o-ring. No more leaks
