Lead additive

#1 PostAuthor: pilgrimz1r » Tue May 13, 2008 11:18 pm

I run a 79' Z1R. The previous owner advised that I use a lead additive with the fuel. I have following his advice but I have been told recently that this is not a requirement.

Any advice from Z-land ?

Zeds were designed to run on either 4* or unleaded(due to country respective legislation) for moons ive run my Z1-R without additive no problems.

I would suggest running the higher octane super-unleaded though!

Unleaded

#6 PostAuthor: greenlaningxt » Wed May 14, 2008 7:59 am

I remember that we used to run all the zeds on 2 Star, they used to run much better.

The Harris Z1000 runs much better on standard unleaded than super.

So I vote for standard unleaded!

What you have to remember is that the old petrols had a higher octane rating than modern unleaded.

Steve, who runs Piston Broke Engineering in Bristle, and has been at it since Stone Henge had a roof on it, tells me that a lot of the head wear, especially guides, is cause by shit petrol (his words not mine). He advised me to run Super Unleaded, and as he sees the insides of loads of sick engines and has a passion for such things I feel that it is best to follow his advice. I have to say that the Old Gurl seems to run the same on either fuel, but I'll follow his advice as he has more experience than myself or anyone else I know :D
