hello. ive fitted an APE breather replacement cover to my MK2 z1000, but,
im loosing an awful amount of oil through the breather. i can only assume its being thrown up through the two holes, left by removing the old breather, by the gearbox cogs inside as they are directly below the holes..... any suggestions ??????
thanks

Hello PiersZ1, are you using a catch tank ? these are designed for use with a catch tank, but even with this catching the oil there should not be much oil being thrown up, the highly tuned race bikes are connecting an electric vacuum pump to these to suck away crankcrase pressure, crankcase pressure will limit high rpm power, even with a pump sucking on the breather we do not loose much oil. If oil is being blown out of this breather then it would be more likley that there is excessive crankcase pressure, this can be caused by worn piston rings or a headgasket leaking into the camchain tunnel, it could also be if the crankcases are being overfilled with oil, a fairly common mistake is that sometimes owners fill the oil to the top level of the sight glass, the oil just needs to be between these level lines and on the race bikes we never fill above the lower line. I hope this gives you a few ideas, Best Regards, Steve

Piersz1, with an oil cooler, it also depends on which way the cooler take-offs are mounted.
Mine are mounted so they come off the top of the cooler matrix, so the cooler stays full of oil when the engine is stopped. I then check oil is in middle of the level lines
This means I can use the cooler as a small reservoir which increases the oil capacity by a bit

Also when you mount the cooler like that it gets oil to the cams quicker.
