These are all over the internet and various suppliers have them in stock. Are they any good or should I buy a set of used OEM from a wrecked bike?

For looks, they gotta be 1st choice, and it don't matter if they ain't of Ohlins quality, coz I'm sure they won't be worse than a +30yrs old set!
But, i think you're after 100% originality, so you better source some OEM shox

i have a set fitted as do a few of my mates and they are very good shocks have the look of the originals without the spongy ness for the price its well worth investing at least until somebody can totally refurb oem ones not just replace or rechrome the externals

Just bought a set of shocks for my a4 that look almost the
same but with no reflector.
they are 365mm long and once fitted they jacked the back end up
by thirty odd mm i didn.t realise what a difference they would
make to the bike it feels and ride.s so much better now. They were
fifty five quid the best buy i.ve made in age.s .
But i.m not one to worry about originality to much so they suit me

what concern's me is the lack of a roll pin at the neck of the shock to stop the damper rod unwinding
this has been discussed before and if I am not mistaken Mike dogsbollox Z1B voiced concern's over the same issue in the past

I have modern hagon ones on my z1a, if you take the stickers off they look very simular to standard ones but work excellent. I'm not bothered about 100% originality but a lot off people think they are original.

I have decided I want to keep my original shockies. The springs are rusted and the PO painted them black to disguise the rust. I don't know squat about these things. Can I take them apart to get the spring out to get it rechromed? If so, how? Thanks.

I'd be interested in knowing that; I couldn't see any way that did not require introduction to Mr Angry Grinder.
