z1a blue smoke

I have bought a z1a,that i think as not been run much because of problems with carbs and the guy i got it from didn`t know how to fix it.The bike is now running well with new carb kits fitted.
I have noticed the plugs are always black,showing sign`s of running rich but a hit of brown is coming through so i think it needs a good run.Fitted a new set of ngk 8s because one plug was down and running on three,this now ok.
What i have noticed now is when starting up from cold blue smoke appears from the 4into4,but after a run this is not noticable and disappears.
Could the problem be valve stem seals.the bike runs ok now, plenty of power.Does the cylinder head after be removed to do this,do i need a special tool to remove seals.

Smoking from cold is usually a sign of worn valve stem oil seals.
This is quite an involved job and labour intensive.Obviously while the head is off,there may be other things that will need attention.
You may find using DENSO spark plugs and having your carbs professionally set up may improve the running.
If the smoke isn't too bad,I'd wait until the winter before having the top end off the engine so you get some use out of the bike this summer,showing my age by associaiting summer with good weather :roll:

Keep an eye on the oil level and see how much it's using. If it's not using much don't worry too much about it, just use it until it starts to use more.

When the bikes parked up, try not to leave it on the side stand, assuming you got a centre stand :roll:
It could just be the valve stem seals, and not worn guides, if ur very lucky :??
DENSO's is first thing to sort out
