Restoring alloy wheels

Hi,
Last time I attempted to change the front tyre I used tyre levers without rim protectors. So much for engaging brain before work. The result was some unpleasant dents in the alloy, so much so I have had to run the front tyre with a tube.

The time has come to put some new rubber on the bike and I wondered if dexterous use of sandpaper to remove said dents might allow the tyre to be inflated without tube?

In fact I thought you couldn't use tubes in modern tyres anyway but this current arrangement has lasted 5 years!

You shouldn't use tubes in modern tyres as they have ribs inside them which rub into the tube. Check the tube when you take it out you may have to put a new one in.
