First of all let me introduce myself, my name is Fabio I'm an Italian Z1R owener, I,m 38 years old but I've starded servicing my bike now and I'm not expert (Sigh !) .

Yesterday It wasn't the right day to do it but I didn't know!!!
Anyway this is what happended : I planned to adjust the chain tensioner of my z1r so I've studied as a good boy The right chapter of the clymer manual and then... I've maid a mess !!!!!

I've torqued too much the wrench and bolt that locks the push rod has been broken leaving inside a prisoner !! AAAArghh I know I've been a real certified I D I O T !.
Anyway I'm trying to be positive and I'm looking forward to solve the problem .I'll buy some bolt extractors and I'll try to free the prisoner ; by the way I've found a very interesting article on this subject on AUTOINC. Online titled: ?The Art of Extraction? .If I'll fail in extracting the prisoner I'll buy a new tensioner holder and I will replace the old one.
I would like to disassemble the chain tensioner before making it
I have a question: Do I have to drain the engine oil before or is not necessary ?
Can someone tell me if there is some detail to pay attention doing the job ?

Zioclive, Bella Cock-up mate

Just remove the whole tensioner unit (2 x bolts).

BUT, whatever u do, do NOT turn the engine over until the tensioner is fixed & back in place :!:

take your time and hopefully the broken bolt will come out OK

As above but disconnect the battery to make sure you don't accidentally turn her over. You don't have to drain the engine oil.

Zioclive, good on you for giving it a go!

This is no easy task in your first attempt at servicing your machine. Extracting that bolt is difficult, mainly because the end of the bolt has enlarged due to the pressure when over-tightening. What I'm saying, even with a good extractor an expert would have trouble. I think I would do as stated above, remove the adjustor complete and then, take it to a mechanic that has the "know-how".

Have a go, by all means. The worst-case scenario, is that you will have to drill the bolt out completly and may damage the thread and/or drill into the stem. There are many ways to fix this... Helicoil, insert etc. The fall-back position is purchase a second-hand unit.

If it does need drilling out, and the casing thread is buggered, it not uncommon to re-thread with the next size up thread :!:

Top tip there from the spanner man - the standard bolt really is a bit on the weedy side....

Thanks guys. Yes extracting seems to be very difficult, I think that I'll use a brend new chain tensioner body . tring to save the inner parts of the old one.
