Finished the motor on my mk 2 apart from the head,
ok so far so good the head that was on the motor when i got it
has 11 yes 11 stripped threads (gus the gorilla bike mechanic mustve built it last time) cam bearing cap threads and cam cover threads this is usually no problem as in heli coiling them, but some of them have already been helicoiled and thats stripped!!!. Can these be re helicoiled.
Failing that i have a spare head but its got extensive fin damage on the ends and right up to the holes where the outer studs come through where the chrome head nuts are, is this repareable

You can put Timeserts in they're a bit bigger. And more robust.
Don't go torqueing these up to what it says in the manual. 6-8lbs/ft is plenty the recommended 12 will most likely break them. This has been discussed before but the last owner of your head must have missed it...

Bolts like that i dont never torque up anyway just nip em up
a visit to my local engineers is on the cards then

With 11 to do, it's got to be worth buying a helicoil set. If you don't have access to a pillar drill to get the buggers straight, you're welcome to bring it round here.

I think Woodberry Chilcotts keep helicoil sets just off the Feeder. They're available on-line, but Woodberry C's are a good supplier and I can voucher for the quality of their wares!

very clever man, when he rebored my GS1000 few years back
couldnt get 1st oversize rings so he used some H**** 1s (not sure which)
and machined the suzuki pistons to match!!!!!top bloke

Bugger always gets me involved in great long conversations; I don't know if this is as a result of my engineering background or if he does it to everyone, but it's fatal to visit him before a time critical appointment

He showed me around the bowels of his workshop, though on reflection I wish he hadn't. His gear is out of the ark, but in fairness he does seem to work to close tolerences, God knows how, I've seen more modern machine tools in museums!

Top bloke who comes up with the goods! Though always take your dowels out and anything else he might want to remove otherwise you'll be there for hours whilst he searches through piles of crap!
