Early Z1 Carbs

#1 PostAuthor: Garn 1 » Mon Mar 17, 2008 10:44 am

The picture below is of a very early Carb off a Z1 (1972). Note; that unlike other 28 mm Mikuni carbs with the 17mm drain-plug, there is no rear vertical rib. I am trying to establish approximately what engine they ceased and went with the strethening rib.

It appears they were only on the Z1's for a short period. Wired George (WG) from this forum thinks they went to about Z1E-3000 odd. They are not easy to spot and I would think you would had to have an early Z to have seen them.

I am aware that they changed to the small screw type drain plugs at approx Z1E-032860 (Z1A)

Someone may have read a Kawasaki Service Bulletin or Edit on this subject. Perhaps GBH could tune in!

RegardZ.

Kawamick, thanks for your reply, that German site was interesting. I'll probably end up putting a bid on some of his other items. It appears as so I'm "flogging a dead horse" to find the finish date of these rare carb's. Although I must admit, I had a set installed on a later Z1 and never noticed, before a friend asked me "when did they modify them to have the rib in question".

Garn according to Jeff's reference info they were fitted up to the 3000 range. Are you trying to pinpoint to within a few hundred or closer?

Davy, whereas it would be nice to have a definitive answer, with reference to some edit/ bulletin from Kawasaki, for this utter Z-nut. I guess I will have to settle for the answer that those non-ribbed carbs finished in the 3000 range (or up to the 3000 range). Meaning, these carbs could be on an engine Z1E -03999? Which is probably good enough! but will not satisfy me if I have engine number Z1E-4200 built 12/72.

Talking of definitive answers, it has been already established that;
Vacuum nipples in head (Finished Z1E- 02179)
One piece head gasket. (Finished Z1E- 14319)
Watch for my next question on Hollow cam-shafts!

Just received a personal message that Z1E-230x has the non-rib Mikuni carb. Anyone in the Z1E 3000's?

That's not quite correct? Glued, taper fit tubes were up to Z1E~01000 Then to Z1E~02173 it was the threaded tube fitting and from Z1E~02174 it was the tubed manifolds :shock: B ut Hey, what's five engines between friends :wink:
