Tokio calipers-piston query

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Sun Mar 02, 2008 12:20 pm

Hi, I have a set of 6 pot calipers off a ZRX to fit to my ELR. I have measured all the pistons as two per caliper are supposed to be smaller, mine are the same size. Can anyone shed some light on the matter.

Cheers Rob

Mark - note ZRX not ZXR - quite possibly different.

Rob - what is it exactly you want to know - are these really ZRX calipers or something else - are you trying to find what brake pads to buy ? .

I've got 6 pot GSXR calipers on one of my Zs and I've got a ZRX also.

Chris, the problem I have is that all the info, for the calipers state that they have 2 small pistons and 4 large pistons per caliper. I however have measured them and have found that they are all the same size. As I am trying to get a seal kit for them, I wondered if anybody else had such a problem and managed to find a solution to it.
The part no on the calipers is 1660 and 1661 and the diameter of the pistons is approx 27.00 mm.

Rob,

all of mine are the same size. thats ZRX1200 and GSXR1100 6 pots.

all 27mm.

The ZRX is a 1200 by the way 2002 vintage - not sure if the 1100 is different (note M&P say the pads are different but not sure if that helps or not).

Chris, I have checked the EBC catalogue to find which pads match mine and for a short period it looks like that two types of calipers were supplied for the ZRX 1100/1200 at the same time. Wemoto and Kawasaki only show the seal kit for the one with the small pistons, so I will have to go to the local Kwack dealer to short this one out.

Cheers Rob

Here is an update on the brake saga, the calipers fitted seem to be off a ZX6R G/J, although the chap I got them off, along with wheels and forks, reckons they are off a ZRX 1100. Checking the EBC catalogue the ZX6R pads FA188 are also fitted to the ZRX 1100, checking Wemoto, the seal kits are different, 1 having the small pistons, the ZX6R having all large pistons, cofused I surely am.
