Fork top nuts

#1 PostAuthor: stevecastle » Sun Jan 29, 2017 9:00 pm

Advise please,
Z1000a2 1978
I have a nipple that comes out of the side of my fork tops.
Could i just unscrew the tops and replace with original type, or is that just too easy

Be aware those nuts are under spring pressure, you can remove but take care,it is possible to replace with a bit of strength, jack up the bike so wheel is up and takes some pressure off the spring..Paul J

Alloy ones are fine, just polish 'em up and use the right socket.

Yep!, There's a clue at the top of the link where it says.....

"A fork top bolts for the following models: Z1/Z1a/Z1b/Z900A4/KZ900b1/Z1000A1"

Your right Gus,just looked at my a2 and they are diff to my a4 the a2 type are like a big grubscrew, recessed with an allen insert covered with a rubber bung, would guess that a4 or a1 may fit though..

Hi Paul

Looking at the two drawings they seem to show quite a few differences so a simple swap out may not work.

Just a thought, wouldn't want money spent for no reason

Yes correct again Gus,didnt look that closely, ones top nut on the a1 looks much longer in the thread length, probably best to stick with a2 type though no knowing if springs etc are standard and correct?
