Piranha ignition query.

I need to double check the timing of my piranha ignition. Pigford has kindly offered some info on fully advanced degree info. Where I'm puzzled is, how do I know the actual trigger point ? Obviously I cant use a bulb or multimeter to indicate the firing point and there are no lights on the control box to indicate the firing point. The ignition has 2 adjustable eyes on a back plate for 1/4 and 2/3 and a trigger disc with a cutout to fire each pair of pots.

Hi,
I used to connect a spare spark plug onto the HT lead and rest it on the Head. there will be a spark as the edge of the notch centres on the lens.

I think this info is in the instructions?

Hope this helps

Regards
H

Pasc,

Disconnect a plug lead, and fit an old plug in (an NGK may be up to it :?: ) and you can see a spark as it triggers.....

I'd come & do it for u, but the ironings building up

Ah ha, did think about that one but wasn't sure if it would be accurate enough. Cheers guys I'll give it a whirl.
Pigford, re the ironing. Just do what I do and only iron the bits that show. ie if the arms of a shirt are covered by a jacket just iron the front bit about 2 inches either side of the buttons. Jobs a good un.

I'm not a big fan of static timing. Get it near enough and then use a timing light. I haven't got one and unless I fall out with my mate John I can't see any reason to buy one! His is Snap-On - I only borrow the best!

Re ironing: better still don't wear anything that needs ironing. If the bride wants me to wear something that requires ironing .... I hardly ever take her out anyway, though I did offer to take her to the Bristol Classic Bike Show ... she declined :??

Dunno whats wrong with my memory lately. Got a decent strobe gun in the garage. I'll give it a whirl. At what sort of RPM is the ignition fully advanced ? 4K ?

Pasc,

If u static at fully advanced, you CANT get it wrong.

If you use a degree dial to ensure you know where the 40 deg mark is, and set timing to fire on full advanced, this is the BEST & most acurrate way
