1978 z1000 with a 4 into 1 V and H pipe. What's the best way to lift bike to allow wheel removal? Thanks Ian.

I agree with the mini scissor lift, just get one with screw in 'legs' that way you can extend them to clear the exhaust. I had to buy some extra studding & connectors to do mine, but some say theirs are fine without any extensions.

With bike on side stand get yourself an axle stand or similar, push right hand side of bars back and towards bike until bike front wheel lifts and pivots on side stand and rear wheel. You should find the weight is trying to keep sidestand down....not push it up. Put an axle stand under right hand side of frame towards front (putting something on top of it to protect paint....piece of old inner tube etc).....job done. Check stable obviously and that axle stand can't slip before removing the wheel ! I've used this method for years on all sorts of bikes with no problem.

Thanks for the ideas. I know I have dealt with this problem in my distant past, trouble is my memory has faded... I want to get the wheel off to replace the tyre. Can I assume that a bikeshop would supply and fit if I just took bike to them? If so any suggestions as to where to go in the Midlands? Near nuneaton would be good.

Chris, I guess your stand is quite old. Tried going down that route but found the modern stand not tall enough for a zed.

Block of wood with hole drilled out for fitting over sump plug and carjack is how we used to do it. Added security was rope tied to handle bars and looped over shed main beam. Not pretty but it worked.

I merely made up some new plates which extended the length to suit.
Seeing as the J models have the longest forks I wasn't surprised I had to do this.
