ZRX 1200R A1 2001 - Correct Exhaust Colour Anyone?

#1 PostAuthor: pertonpc » Fri Dec 16, 2016 9:16 am

Hi There,
I am trying to work out what the original colour would be for the downpipes and link pipe on a 2001 A1P ZRX cos mine have been hand painted.

I think this is a library pic of a 2001 bike -

This one looks like it is fairly stock condition -

So I am debating matt finish or satin black - does anyone know for sure what kind of black was used on the A1P ??

They did various different finishes over the years and then went to an all polished stainless system in the end I believe. But I want to try and replicate the correct one for my year.

Some of the other finishes -

Thanks for looking

Would think it would be Satin as standard, it just fades to Matt with heat.

There is a 1000deg satin black powder coat available now, which will withstand exhaust heat , I just found out.
Cheers,

Mark.

A1-A3 models where a funny flat black color, tempered with rust almost immediately! Black fireplace grate polish is good for them! Your second pic is an A2p 02 model.

Thanks for the ideas people

I think I am going satin black - based on I cleaned and examined the original exhaust finish which was untouched at the end of the link pipe where it fits against the end can.

Figured that area was least likely to have needed a re-touch - and also coolest ref. the heat fade comment above.
