Just wanted to get a second opinion on my valve timing before I close the lid on it. It is slightly ambiguous on the position of the exhaust cam sprocket. The timing mark is slightly down from the bolt. The manual suggests that the bolt should be exactly lined up with the casting top. With the link counted as per instructions that put the bolt on the inlet cam smack on. What do you guys recon?

i can,t see the arrow marks on the sprockets ? imust be going blind,or is different for a z900?

they're pretty indistinct, even when you have them under your nose!

I'd recheck that if I were you, the bolt looks a little high. Is that a new chain or the old one ? Always rotate forwards when doing cam timing and make sure that your tdc mark is tdc.

As said before, make sure your at TDC on 1+4, if your are count from the first pin above the arrow head on the Exh cam and the 28th pin aligns on the Inlet as you've shown. The top sprocket doesn't appear to be a STD one and its sitting pretty high but it may just be an optical illusion.

As suggested in a previous post, a small dob of white paint on the arrow may have been helpful. Regret to say, it would be a brave man to make a decision based on your photo's. A quick check (photo) that you are on TDC, as Rich suggests would also be wanted.
