Fitting Tips for New Exhaust Header Studs Please

#1 PostAuthor: pertonpc » Thu Dec 01, 2016 8:03 pm

Ok Then,

To compliment my thread on getting a damaged one out -

How do you drive the new stud in deep enough?

How do you prep the hole before fitting?

Is threadlock required so that future nut removal will not undo the whole lot?

Any tips or pitfalls from the experienced ones please.

I can imagine locking two sacrificial nuts onto the stud and driving it in with the two nuts on one socket. But would this damage the new thread or leave a nut stuck on it somehow.

Would applying grease to help it seat all the way in be a no no?

Thanks in advance.

just clean out the thread with an 8mm tap then lock two nuts onto the new stud & tighten until it is at the same level as the other studs .do not use any locking agent

I run a tap down the hole and a die down the stud, two nut trick works well, seat the stud short thread in - until no thread is showing.

I use alumslip and no loctite, stainless stud kit.

Use a top hat nut with a ball bearing inside it.
The nut locks on via the ball bearing then releases easily without having to wreck/stretch any threads

Nice ideas thanks.

So the new stud will have a long and short thread and the short one goes into the head then (not seen them yet). :?:

What a good idea.
Cheers,
