Has any one refurbed a starter solonoid on a z1. Any way to get the bracket plated. Cheers

Pattern ones are so cheap, it's not really worth the candle. They're not designed to be taken apart, so it would be extremely tricky and not worth the effort IMHO

Yes I replated mine on my Michigan to West Sussex 73 Z1 resto(in projects)
The resto is featured but the bit on the solenoid plating got Wiped.
I will add to this thread over the weekend.

Cheers for that.

1)Remove the label using steam from a kettle.
2)Desolder the 2 wires from the solenoid and using a desolder suction tool clear the solder from the 2 brass ferrules that the wires from the coil exit.
3)Remove the 2 main connection bolt nuts.
4)Remove the 2 screws that secure the insulator.
5)Pull the insulator clear making sure not to tear the rubber gasket.
6)Remove the moving part of the solenoid and spring.
6)Cut a piece of perspex or plastic that's just a little larger than the square face of the solenoid,pack silicon grease around the square face and retaining the existing rubber gasket secure your plastic cover over this area by fixing down with temporary screws.
7)Send all the screws, nuts, washers, bolts, wire clip and main body for yellow pasivate zinc.
8)Clean the contacts tips with wire wool.
9)When reassembling solder some fine draw wire to the solenoid wires so they can be threaded with ease through the brass ferrules on the insulator before soldering.
10)Test on 12volt battery.
One anorak point..you will loose your date code during the zincing process.

I remember the pictures to this old post. I recall the end result as being quite impressive.
I see someone is now selling the red decals for this on ebay.

I think I will try this process on a spare one first. Wish me luck.

I remember the parts being sent to Mikey for plating and during the plating process no zinc got past the seal.
