Use enamel hobby type tins of humbrol. Paint them all white regardless of if they were red/yellow originally. Get a tissue that is damp with enamel thinners and lightly wipe over the painted letters. This needs to be done before the white is dry. It'll take off any of the white paint that is outside the letter recess's leaving the black surround intact.
When dry, do the same again using yellow on the yellow letters and red on the red letters. The underlying white will make the over lying yellow or red colours much brighter and they'll stand out much, much better.
Literally takes 30 seconds to do each set, bar the drying time. Saves hours of faffing with cocktail sticks etc.

Humbrol paint with fine brush, allow to dry off a little till tacky.
Wipe any excess with a lolly stick that has kitchen roll wrapped round it with lighter fuel on it.
Best way of repainting Black on points and alternator covers around DOHC too.
Regards
Steve
