Evening all. As some of you may have seen on here already, im waiting on my bike to be shipped over from Florida. My plans are to completely strip the bike and rebuild it and fitting as much of the original stuff as possible. Whether that be refurbed original or good quality pattern parts. I have seen a book thats available on Amazon. Its titled as a restoration book for early zeds. Z power also do a book for restiration info but its based on the first year models. Can i assume these two books would be good for a source of info fir the Z1A model too? I spent last winter building a Harris F1 and set up an anodising station with excellent results. I know there are some parts like springs and bolts, etc that weee zinc plated from the factory. I will be setting up my own baths to do that. But its fine being able to carry out these tasks at home. Where is the best place to find out what parts should be zinc coated, chromed, etc?

Where are you located? if local to me (west Mids),you are more than welcome to check out any books i have, Mickey Hesse,Dave Marsden,and Dave orrits,plus at the mo i have a Z1b,z thou a2 and an a4 in various stages of resto that could be checked out..Paul J

Mickey Hesse books are rare though some do crop up on ebay,pity you are not local to me and could use mine,for a cheap resto book Dave Orrits resto book is ok.

when you do start to strip the bike take as many photo's as possible of where things are fitted especially wiring routing & electrical components

I will indeed. Im a proper photo whore. 😝 When i built the F1, i must of taken a thousand photos. 😇

I found dave marsdens restoration book for sale to ight. Ive ordered it along with a few others. Spent a bit if money in books, but itll be worth it.

I find the parts diagrams very useful when putting dismantled bits back as they should be.

parts diagrams are good for locating parts but not for the routing of wiring you will be surprised how many people get it wrong

That link is great. Thanks. I'm able to save the file in I books on my iPhone and print off decent quality pictures. Unlike partzilla. However, partzilla does allow a cross reference of part numbers to other bike models.
