Guyz.Anyone recomend a good technique for setting shims with head off bike?
Got a couple of heads one in particular came with roughly ground tips and one shim down to 2.05,could do with setting roughly so can get an idea of shims and or valve tipping if needed without having to keep building up the heads...ta

You need to fit the valves (once they have been recut/ground) with just the outer spring to make it easier to turn the cam by hand then proceed as you would normally using a 2mm shim to calculate the shims needed.
If no clearance you really need a valve stem height gauge to work out how much tipping the stems need.
Make sure the head is on blocks clear of the bench to avoid bending the valves and only install one cam at a time for the same reason.

Can be done with a vernier but it's very tricky and needs multiple re-measures to settle on a consistent figure though.
