I'm looking to buy a frame bracing kit for my Z900A4 project. Has any body used the PMC or Kosman bracing kits, and if so does anyone have a price/contact for importing one of these kits. Any help much appreciated.

Check Zed Supplies link on the links page, or ring the number in the ad in the magazine - Alex Reid imports PMC stuff - the PMC one would certainly stop you having to cut all thise tubes yourself. any PMC bits I've seen look good. If yo go ahead with this tell us what way it works out.

Pigford many thanx for printing that AGAIN :D remember it from before but could never find it :angry:

my question is this:- distortion occurs from welding,would the frame have to go in a jig so kit can be welded? or is that not such an issue? this "kit" take it its cut to spec and there are instuctions for where each component locates ?

I've just bought all the tubing and plate to brace my frame up for a tenner. I know that leaves me to cut and mitre all the relevant bits, but I'm notoriously tight. MIG welding shouldn't distort the frame if you do it a bit at a time. The last one I braced, I brazed all the tubes and plates in - but in hindsight that probably puts more heat into the frame than today's technology, but there were no problems with that one.

what dimension/type tube and plate thickness are you using?

aswell as mitre cutting tubing, are you scalloping the tube ends for a more precise fit or pinching them?

could this work be done with an arc welder?

I say El Presidente time to get yer box brownie and snaps for projects :)

Tube is 19mm or 25mm, depending on where I'm using it, 1.5mm wall, and I'll cut/grind the ends to fit flush. I think arcing will probably be too fierce,ie more holes than weld, I'd sooner work with MIG or TIG, mind you, I'll work with anybody.

thanx for info jerry,i know arc is hardcore compared to mig,but if the welder is set up correctly a good weld can be achieved with arc :)

Yes but it puts a lot more heat into the metal, which changes the metals properties. For example, if a truck chassis or component cracks, and you arc weld it, chances are the bugger will fail again,usually right against the weld.

I've started to attack my frame now, and it's surprising how much weight it's lost, although it was a bugger to cut out the front flitch at the top of the downtubes. Having done that, it's probably lost so much strength that if you could put it together and ride it, it'd probably handle like a.......like a......... like an old Kawasaki:(
