Choke

#1 PostAuthor: Wayne1960 » Sun Sep 11, 2016 1:28 pm

Something I've noticed
When i pull up the choke it does what it should and gives an immediate petrol boost and the bike fires up.
However it runs for say 10 seconds and will then want to stall.
If i turn the choke down quickly its fine and recovers nicely.
Doesn't quite feel right though.
Any suggestions?
Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.
Bike now finished what a joy!

I'm no expert but I would be happy with that . Mine takes a few minutes at least on half choke before I can knock the choke off completely.

It's normal.
Start on full choke then knock it down to around half asap and then off choke after a couple of mins .
The stalling is due to the build of the excessive fuel in the cylinder that is only needed for starting.
Remaining on full choke will cause flooding and plug fouling due to the lack of air needed for a complete burn.
Depending on the jetting /exhaust/engine condition etc some engines will withstand full choke for longer or shorter periods.
