At long last I have fully completed my GPZ and got it running - well sort of. The bike ticks over nicely, revs freely and the revs drop back down nicely. Clearly it has a very strong engine with no noises to worrry about. It pulls really well on the road but it really is pretty dire below 3000 rpm - feels more like a 250!! I am running standard exhausts, the TPS has been adjusted and I have also cleaned out the injectors. Anything else that I have missed please? Any ideas gratefully received as my next point of call is my local Kawasaki dealership and that is admitting defeat.

No light flashing on the ECU so that would indicate to me that it can't be all bad. Its really flat up to about 3000 rpm then it takes off. Plugs are showing to be quite sooty which would indicate that its running rich. How do you lean it up on a fuel injected model? No wonder they changed these to run on carbs!

Temp sensor in the head can corrode in threads & give a higher resistance than normal. The ECU will think the bike is cold & richen up the mixture. Remove the sensor & the boss & thoroughly clean all threads. Also cut of the sensor connector & check the condition of the cable, another likely candidate for corrosion.
Make sure your fuel return valve is working as it should. If it's sticky it will increase fuel pressure, causing a richer mixture.
