Blue Exhaust...

#1 PostAuthor: Yellow » Sun Aug 14, 2016 7:05 pm

Irish Kev's bike. He cleaned the exhausts using coca-cola and tin foil to remove slight surface rust.
Then on the rally when the exhaust got hot they turned blue in places.
Any idea what this is about and how to remove it???Image

Looks like melted plastic??..

Light scotch pad and a little anusol should remove it without scratching the hard chrome. If it still wont budge then careful use of a Stanley knife blade should scrape it off.

Its not melted plastic which we thought it was, its more where the original chrome has worn away...

Never seen chrome plate come off to reveal that underneath before, would think it would show copper not blue??.

The headers on my old original A4 pipes were VERY black/blue/brown and just about every other shitty colour when I got the bike.

Not the best before pic but gives you an idea....

After a LOT of elbow grease, wire wool and a tube of Autosol, they came up like this....

Headers tend to be pretty resilient to damage so don't be afraid to get stuck in.
