Hey guys, wonder if someone can help me. I'm building a chop GPZ 11 B1 and I won't be using the airbox. Engine came with a set of CV 34 mm Mikunis. I understand from reading up that I can get an air correction kit for these and it should run OK. But would I be better off trying to find a set of 29 mm slide carbs ? Now before you all start shouting Sacrilege the only part of a GPZ 11 I have is the engine. Thanks to all for your help. $tevie.

Just speaking for myself; if not using the airbox i wouldnt use the cv's!!!!
My suggestion would be 34mm RS flatslides if money will run to them.
They work straight from the box, all spares and jets are available, designed to deal with modern fuels, have push pull throttle for safety and make an interesting noise
Dont know anything about chops but i guess if its an older style youre looking to create then probably not. RS flatslides have a modern, technical look about them!
Just remember to remove the advisory 'sticker' before using them on the road!!!!
Got mine from Dave at Saisei for a very good price in the end.

Other choice is Keihin CR33. If you can find a good set then the 34mm carbs as fitted to GSXr750 slabbies are a straight swap but they are rare now and 2nd hand carbs are a gamble. My Katana runs CV carbs with pod filters and its horrid. Air corrector kit about to go in but if I could afford it RS34/36 or CR33/35 would be my pick. Agree Saisei did good price on last set but £ to Yen taken hammering recently so might impact price negatively

The VM29s on my J work a treat with K&N filters, the motor of course being closely related to the GPz1100....

i run 34mm cv carbs with filters and dynojet air correction kit for a z1000j on my b2, it runs really well, they are off the z1100 shaft so dont have the 1000j run on device on the carb bodies. My brother runs the same set up on his B2 but we had to up the pilot jet. As long as the carbs are not shot it works well.

I have 34mm mukunis on mine and it runs fine just balance the carbs correctly.

Proper VM29 smoothbores can be a good £400-500 if in good nick

GS1000 28mm are a good option - and far easier to tune than CV's

I've got a set off gs1000 carbs I bought off mr pigford a couple of years ago. I've now stripped and sold the bike ( z1000j ). If you are interested in them give me pm.

I got myself a set of 29 mm mikuni slide carbs. The seller said they were off a GS1000. My next question, how do I tell if they are smoothbores or not ? Did Mikuni do 29 mm non smoothbores ? Cannot find anything on the net except smoothbores in that size. $

Std GS1000 are 26mm or 28mm depending on model.
They have both air and fuel mixture screws.
A lot of z1r 28mm carbs found their way on to GS's and these have the air mix screw only.
The 28's measure nearly 29mm internally where it enters the inlet rubber but the venturi is 28mm so you may really only have 28's.
Only smoothbores in 29mm. (unless someone like me bored out some std ones like I did for the café project)
Smoothbores are identified by the square casting and brass ball as shown in the pic below.

OK thanks for that. Yea they are very nearly 29 mm and don't have that casting, so they are 28s, I'm happy enough with that. How fast do you wanna go on a Plunger framed GPZ11 chop anyhow lol, cheers $tevie.
