Guys this is driving me crazy! Im trying to repaint a 70s fibreglass front mdguard but everytime i put a coat of paint on it it crazes! Im guessing theres some kind of reaction going on between the (dodgy) gel coat and the cellulose primer. It goes on fine then crazes up. I,ve tried primer, primer filler, light coats, thick coats. Im contemplating either 2 pack acrylic laquer first or a coat of plastic plod.
any paint experts in the house?

You need a sealer/isolator to stop the top coat reacting.....

HHhhmmmm, good shout but not as effective as I hoped. Still getting one patch which crazes even after 3 coats of Isolator.

I always use BARCOAT by UPOL.
Never failed yet.
You should primer over the isolator before the top coat..

not got as far as top coat yet. If it shows on grey primer it'll defo show on black top coat. Black shows every swirl and ding.

Cellulose has always been difficult to paint. It reacts with everything except cellulose.

Try using an acrylic based paint instead, unless there is oil or grease - it should layer on OK.
