Speedo stopped working

Any ideas? My speedo has stopped working. Disconnected it and put a drill on end of cable and the needle registers so it's not the actual speedometer or cable.
Put it back together and made sure it engaged on the pin in the front wheel unit but nothing.

turn the cam in the speedo drive & check if the worm gear is turning? if its not the gear has worn & you will need to replace the complete speedo drive

Ok i have removed the wheel and the speedo drive and clearly something isn't working as it should.
if i turn the cam the worm gear turns but intermittently.
i would really like to keep the init as its original so can i strip it down and if so how?

yes you can get the worm gear but its nearly impossible to remove the the roll pin that secures it in the aluminium casing cheaper & more easily available to replace as a complete unit

Ok that's what that is!! I thought it was an Allen screw. So could I drill it out?

the pin itself is hardened you would need to drill from the opposite end of the dowel & tap it through & that's if you can get another worm gear. it realy isnt worth the aggro trying to repair

Ok speedo drive aside should there be any play in the part that fits into the wheel behind the chrome dust cover. Nice by a couple of mm or should it be solid?

yes you will have play between the pick up & the speedo gear box
