KZ1000 A1/A2 forks ?

#1 PostAuthor: Steve H » Wed Feb 13, 2008 5:52 pm

Hi all, new to the site so please be gentle if I ask the same old boring question thats been answered many time before

Can anyone answer this question that has been on my mind for a while?

I have a KZ1000A2 USA (twin disc upgrade) model which should have the caliper/s behind the forks but for some reason thay have been mounted on the front (they are A2 calipers and not A1), not a problem I think, I'll just swop the fork legs over, remount the calipers and hey presto job done but then I relise the fork drain plug and lug will be facing forward. My question is three fold, does this matter, did Kawasaki have job lot of A1/Z900A4 fork legs left over so used them the other way on the A2 model to use up old stock as I've seen this occur on a few A2's or do you think someone has just simply replaced the forks with earlier ones?

All answers will be gratfully recieved!!

Steve

my A2 kz1000 has calipers at rear, rubber covers on the top bolts at top of forks and drain plug at bottom rear . and is standard.

believe A1 models have exposed bolt at top of forks and drain plug at bottom rear of forks . and caliper at front.

sounds like they have been changed with some other model, not sure what , dont think it should make much difference.
but to make it look original calipers should be at rear on A2.
zed the best ride of your life ...... so far

Cheers for the reply, I think the forks must be from the A1 then, they are very similar to the forks on the earlier 1000 that I have.
As you say, the calipers need to be behind the fork to be correct so I'll whip them out and swop them over and put up with the bleed screw etc being incorrect.

I do have a spare set of forks with the square top recesses and rubber bung as you've mentioned on your bike but even the caliper mounting points on these are on the wrong side also :x

I suppose with the age of the bike things must get chopped and changed through the years!
