I'm in the process of restoring my Z1000 A1 and the switches look a bit tatty, I would like to restore the original switch gear, so does anyone know what is the best paint to use on them and are there any ideas on how to redo the lettering. I have looked on you-tube but can't find anything.

Last set I painted I used a brush applied Humbrol Satin black paint.

i like to use matt black with a clear lacquer on top, i find that gives a deep satin look.

I like that idea, I've never been satisfied with 'satin' as it comes.

Thanks warren Simonez it is then, I may well try the clear lacquer as too.

You can use a cocktail stick to add in the white & red bits.

If you want the the red and yellow lettering to really look good do them white first. When dry then do red or yellow over the top.
both red and yellow don't have enough colour pigment to cover the black underneath properly.

For a really nice job get Griffs Reality Motorcycles to powder coat them. He will put it on so you can barely tell it's not paint.

If I'm feeling skint I use a two pack satin black, but you do need to use a etching wash primer first.

I use Humbrol model enamel paint and a very fine Harris artists brush and glasses these days A white base will give them more zinc. The last I did were for a customer's Jota.
