Fitting a Pingel

My gorgeous Pingel fuel tap arrived from Debben today - thanks Steve. Just wondering if there's anything I should know about fitting it.

I understand I need to use plumber's white tape on the lower thread (ie where the tap joins the adaptor) and not the upper thread (where the adaptor joins the tank), but is there anything else to be aware of?

Cheers, P. (Who's pissed off that it's raining today)

Pablo, NO RAIN HERE MATE

Its just a case of a bit of jiggling around with the tap so once its all tight, its aiming in the right direction :P

Before you fit it, check how high the internal pipe is, coz this will effect how much reserve you got. I only managed 2-3 miles once reserve was selected, and had to wait for the Missus to bring me a can 'o petrol. Neither of us were amused

I have just fitted a Pingel to my KZ1000 'cos the ticking noise from the original vacuum tap was driving me nuts.

It is such a lovely polished bit of kit that all Z1OC members hould have one. Makes you want to sneek into the garage just to look at the fuel tap!

Hope they do give some miles on reserve - not tested that yet

The vertical tube is almost exactly the same length as the standard tap - but a LOT fatter, which can only be good news. Should give the same or very similar reserve at any rate.

I've got the tap on but couldn't get the hoses onto it. Turns out my hoses are 6mm ID and not 6.5 which they should be. Got to try to get hold of some 6.5 tomorrow.

Cheers, P.

Pablo, surely you can warm 'em up and squeeze 'em on for a nice tight leak-proof fit :?:

Or ask Steve at Debbens to send you out some of their very nice fuel line, I have done two bikes with it now.

I used new 5.5mm ID hose - it's tight but fits just fine. You can get this or larger ID pipe at

Part of the trouble is there's not much room with the new tap - in fact hardly any. Just can't get the hose on as it is, no room to push and pull.

Tried warming it up by holding a Zippo underneath the hose but the resulting firestorm is currently engulfing the whole of eastern Spain.

Sorry - did I not mention the firestorm?

Suggest buy a new bike and give up smoking - but always fit a Pingel!

Pingel is the way to go. Think I will go out to the garage for a peak at it. Can't ride it, you guys talk about a little rain. How about -10 degrees F below zero.

Have heard it said, drill out original fuel tap pipe!
Measure time taken to pass measured amount of fuel.Drill out ,measure again,.....improvement?
Fk designer labels,....function first.

Pablo if you're going to stretch the pipe to make it fit I would suggest you do it off the bike as it is very easy for the spigot on the tap to nick a bit of rubber off the inside bore of pipe, and unless you're using an in line filter it will end up blocking your carbs. I speak from experience as a bit of rubber lodged firmly in a float valve on mine.
Just like I needed the extra practice of removing carbs :(

Just fitted my z1170 with new lines on my pingel at the weekend and they were 8mm i.d
and 14mm o.d are a good leak proof fit .
I filled the sink with boiling water let them soak in the time honoured
method and they went on ( not that easily!! ) but i;m really pleased with the fit .
It was worth the burnt fingers
