Carbs

I have being trying to get a KZ1000 ST to run correctly, I've changed to Dyna S ignition. Carbs cleaned and look like they are in good condition. Bike has done approx. 15000 miles. The accelerator pump has parts missing so I replaced all the float bowls with standard ones.
Bike starts and runs on 1,3 and 4 very well. Will not run at all on no 2 where the pump was.
I have set float height as per the other three and the plug was wet. Lowered the level slightly and no petrol getting to cylinder.
Question is... is no 2 float height set differently because of the pump as standard and where should I set it now that the pump is removed?

Yellow, have a look at the small orifice in the lower centre of the throat nearest the engine. I'll bet it's blocked, unfortunately you will have to remove carbs and clear it with something like a "primis pricker" (a fine needle at rt angles to a long-4" handle). Compare that orifice with 1,3 &4.
Note all float levels are set the same. I expect the carbs are 26 or 28mm Mikuni high tops.
Also check you have blocked off the breathers, I seem to recall people often, mistakenly, run there fuel line into the breathers on those carbs.

Spent the day on these and cleaned every orifice I could see. Still no joy
Will remove them again and bring them to Paul Doran for a spell in his ultrasonic cleaner, hopefully that will sort it...

Yellow, are you using the standard air cleaner and is it a repro?

If you are check that a small piece of sheet metal between No 2 & 3 has not moved over partially cutting off air to No.

Replaced coils and leads from a running bike so think they are OK.
Will have a look at valve clearance during the week...

Done valve clearance, some were out a bit so replaced till all are correct. Put back together and still NOT firing on no 2. Will swap the carbs of an Z1000 A1 the weekend and see what happens.........

I'll be interested to see how it goes on the Z1000-A2 carbs.
If it is still not running on #2, swap leads from #3 and check!
If that don't work, you will have to check that #2 carb for blockage or air leaks.
Also, have a look at your advance retard mechanism for lack of movement of plate, at the back of your DynaS. (Unlikely to be this!).

Assuming you have a spark at the correct time & fresh fuel on call ........then stick your thumb over plug #2 & spin the starter motor........did your thumb stay there ? = rule out or in a compression issue .

Update.... swapped out the carbs for a set of a Z1000 A1. Bike is running like a dream.
Now to find out where the problem is with the No 2 carb, will take it to Paul the weekend and get him to put it in the ultra sonic cleaner and see if that helps.
Yep Johnny, thumb blown away so compression good.
