Hi,
I'm currently doing a kz1000R1 clone project with gpz1100B2 and a kz1000j donor bike.
Almost everything is from the GPZ except the front end (top fork, triple tree and gauges) and motor.
Hoping to have a near perfect copy......
Question is that I have the choice using the kz1000j cams or the gpz?
Would it be an upgrade using the gpz cams and how?
If so, will it need special timing after?
Many thanks for your help!
Joce

The B2 cams have more lift than the J cams.
If you check out the factory workshop manual, all the info is in there.
I'n not sure if the 1000 R1 has the same cams as the 1000 R2,but Big John is right with R2 and B2 having the same cams.
The 1100R2 is an ultra-rare Wisbech only supplied model, the rest of the Universe had to make do with the 1100R1

I wonder how the different cam would affect carburation, I suspect a lot of suck it and see. I would be inclined to pester Steve Debben.

Ralph Malph, don't pester Steve as he only goes out with birdz
The spec of jcote's motor will be as per Z1000 R2 so no worries about carburation.
The B2/R2 cams only give a couple of extra BHP and are still shim over bucket type.
If you want the full cam s.p. then check out the genuine Kawsaki Z1000J/GPz1100 workshop manual, the later edition that covers all the J,R and GPz B models.
